Local Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then found multiple other marked cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say initial examinations indicate the liquid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; investigators are not yet aware of any injuries in relation with the event," they added.
City officials stated they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the community for tips.
A high-ranking representative said the incident left him without words and had to be solved promptly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a gunman targeting people of migrant background in February 2020.
